Every era has its silhouette, fabrics and codes. At Autour D'Un Soir our historical costume collection serves theatre, film, re-enactments and themed weddings — and anyone curious about how fashion tells history.
This guide is an invitation to travel through dress, sharing what forty years of costumes have taught us.
Our collections
Major periods
Renaissance, 18th century, Napoleonic era, Belle Époque, Roaring Twenties, mid-century, seventies and eighties: each period has its volumes, colours and accessories. Renaissance dress often plays with sleeves, brocades and constructed silhouettes; the 18th century emphasises panniers, embroidered coats and wigs; the 1920s shorten and fluidify lines.
A credible costume relies on these details, not only on a general « atmosphere ». Even for a non-academic event, choosing two or three accurate references helps avoid a fancy-dress effect.
Fabrics and finishing
Embroidery, lace, buttons, caps and hats complete the silhouette. Accessories are often what makes a period recognisable: a headpiece, cravat, braid, gloves or jewellery immediately guides the reading.
Consistency also depends on fabrics. A fabric that is too contemporary, too shiny or too stretchy can break the historical illusion, even if the general cut looks right.
Theatre, film and themed weddings
Our period costumes serve stage productions, shoots and private events. For a themed wedding see period wedding or our other activities.
